Abstract

This article deals with a close reading of Viets, a collection of poetry in Flemish which is also an artist book resulting from the collaboration between a poet and a publishing company. Viets is an example of a "minor" culture blurring the boundaries between various modes and forms of expression, yet following very strict rules, more particularly as far as typography is concerned. The analysis tackles more than one dimension of the work: the relationships between book and magazine, text and paratext, black and white and colour, but also between opacity and transparency. Ther relationships under scrutiny always highlight the interaction between opposite terms, never their mutual incompatibility.
